You just sat for most of the first and second days? I wonder why they didn't alternate sitting and walking meditation, huh?

Thanks Rebecca - I'm glad to hear it! I still get up there a couple of times
a year to either sit or serve. It's really a wonderful experience that

THANK YOU! I am terrified of leaving early / quitting. I always take the path of least resistance. Interestingly, next week I will commit to my first 10 day sit and as I did a search for vipassana packing, your bog came up. Unlike you, I have been literally packing and unpacking and seeing this new 10 day sit experience best I can, pre-paving so to speak. I was accepted three months ago and began meditating everyday 15 minutes, two times daily to prepare. I live a comfortable lifestyle. I follow my gut and reach for the best feeling thought, that leads to the best feeling action. I'm a picky eater and I resist: hunger, close quarters, other peoples rules and toilet issues ect. Now that I am old, beginning my sixties, I wonder, what will I do for the rest of my life? This thought is my intention for the sit. You had me laughing out loud, as you spoke honestly of your human impulses and then your phrase "apples and old socks"...another resistant
hot button for me...hahaha....and I loved your gutsy talks with the teacher. I know I will be smiling in my sit......MANY THANKS.

thank you for the story! i just completed my first 10-day course in Triebel, Germany this last Friday and so many things you mentioned, i remember doing and feeling exactly the same ('cept the sexual part. i... oh, never mind...)

my wife will most likely be attending a course very soon too. and this is something i plan to practice for the future (and i dont have any intentions of becoming a monk either...)

Hey, I was googling vipasana retreat (for someone to go to during a rockbottom/stressful juncture) and your article came up. I found it very informative and funny - I laughed out loud, because similar thoughts go through my mind when I meditate.

It sounds like an amazing experience, especially if after the 10 days, you're able to bring it into the world as we know it; blending with it the fun non precept concepts :)
I hope your days are filled with joy and peace and you reflect the beauty witihin to all.

Peace,
Hope
