Thanks a million for putting this up. I'm planning to do a vipassana retreat this September, and after reading tons of experiences by all sorts of people, yours is the one that I can really associate with.

It sounds awesome, I can't wait :) Thanks again.

My husband is returning today from this retreat in MA, and I found this article on day one when I did a google search. I read about each day over the course of his retreat, and it was so great to have some clue as to what he's been going through. Excellent writing, interesting details and great memory! Thanks for the enjoyable read.

Doggi Doggi,

Que es la que hay????? As usual the laws of randomness has played a tric on my life once more. After many failed attempt to read your blog because you where to lazy to make sure your links are up, jajajajaja, or for some reason my computer did not want to access this page I finally got to it yesterday morning. Not knowing what your trip was about, but with a heavy mental dilemma in my mind, I proceeded to procrastinate at work and read this long ass blog post from the King of Tuxes, no other then Dog The Fresh Maker.

All I can say is, Perfect. It was perfect, I fell into full meditation mode and in the two hours or so It took me to read it, between cigarettes, emails, phone calls, coffee, toilet breaks (Yes We got some of those here in the island), and some zzzz here and there, I felt semi-enlightened. It put some of my internal quarrels to rest and in some short paragraphs made a whole 10 day meditation experience reachable for us that don’t got time bitch… jajajajajaja. And again, my friend, the mighty algorithms of ipod randomness will rule again.

“We built this city on ROCK AND RRRRRROOOOOOLLLLL”

Thanks for sharing, I’m sure the experience help on some level, cant argue we need to keep conscious the fact we are all on this boat together. I can certainly say in the words of one of my favorite urban poets,

Keep It Fresh Hommies…jajajaja

Your PR posse brother

Great story, I can imagine the human tragedy of not being able to leave the cell of your body, before realizing that's all you need. I'm going too now, might even bring a few friends, probably in July...

One question... why is it that everyone seems to think think they need to do anything different now that its over? I thought the whole idea was to be equanimous & not force things to any objectives, even those of Big Buddha.

Take care D -- hope to see you before I'm off...

Hi there!

What a surprise to receive your comments on my blog - thank you!! How on earth did you find me from the great depth of cyberspace????

Anyway, metta received - thank you!

I spent a wonderful time reading your account of the meditation course ... mine was 6 months ago, and reading your vivid journal brought everything back - the good and the bad!! :-) What a memory you have - are you sure you didn't cheat a little and take notes whilst there???

I love to write so much that not writing for 10 days bothered me more than not reading or talking ... one time, about day 5 I think, I was SO desperate that I frantically scrounged through my purse for a scrap of paper and a pencil, and on the back of an old shopping list I scribbled in huge letters - I DON'T THINK I CAN STAND THIS ANYMORE!!! Boy, I felt better after that - maybe that was my version of your sexual tension ;-)) ... although I think the snowmen were rather more creative!

I took the course in Barrie, Ontario ... much smaller group and premises than yours ... yet, everything sounded exactly the same - even down to the delicious meals, they sure have this down to an art.

I wish I could tell you that I now meditate morning and evening ... but I don't. However, I learned an awful lot about myself during those 10 days, and that has definitely stayed with me. I do meditate from time to time, and I doubt I will go back for a refresher ... but, who knows?? It was an experience I am so very glad that I had. Take care, and thanks again for hooking up!

May All Beings Be Happy!

Haha, great comments friends! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words.

Jay Pee, yes you're right, I really should have mentioned the mountain hookers. They're a burly bunch.

OK... now I've read the whole thing...

Great story, mad adventure. Sounds like hard work though! I often feel I am ready to reject the the rest of the world and its stressful ways - money and commuting and angry drunk people; but it does mean that you can not even think about pretty little ladies and act like a complete jackass every weekend... I'm just not quite ready either. When I hit old age and impotence I'll give it a shot.
