Some Deep Thoughts from Chiang Mai’s Bar Scene

Zoe

So there’s this bar area in Chiang Mai that is called Zoe In Yellow. It’s a really weird name and it’s also a really weird bar experience. Imagine a food court of your typical mall, however it’s at street level and entirely outdoors and instead of food establishments each area is a different type of musical mini-club. So there is a reggae bar, there is the hip hop club, there’s the really really cheesy techno club, there’s a punk rock club and there is even a big band Cuban club. People move around as they want, unhindered, drinks in hand. It’s kind of like the perfect ADD night out. As you can imagine this was not the place that I expected to find a deep conversation about the nature of being human.

Money Meet Consciousness. Time For You Two To Be Friends.

We all have a lot of inner stories surrounding money so whether we came from a lot or a little it’s really useful to take a look at the relationship we have with it. Last night I watched a documentary called “Money and Life” which offered some easy to comprehend insights about the finance world that I didn’t know. I also liked one of the conclusions towards the end in which an entrepreneur considered the concept of growth to include other things besides the bottom like personal growth, growth of her employees and good ol’ fashioned fun 🙂

Digital Nomads and the Future of Community

Do you want to work remotely from exotic locations? NomadList is a fun place to start thinking about possible locations 🙂 Back in 2005 I was travelling & working as a web designer for western clients while hopping throughout asia. I called myself a technomad and lived out of cheap furnished apartments, hotels and internet cafes. It’s exciting to see 10 years later that many thousands of people are doing the same, referring to themselves “digital nomads”. Not as catchy as technomad, but it’s the same idea and more importantly it’s catching on: Digital Nomads just had their first conference and there are estimates that there might be as many at 1bn working remotely by 2035. See this link for the full presentation.

So you may not know this about me but I’m a little bit of a documentary junkie. Since I have some self-prescribed, mind-expanding time on my hands right now I decided to do a little research on where to find some good online docs… And I just discovered a motherload of consciousness poking and thought provoking documentaries.

Solitude vs. Community and Spiritual Bypassing

FAST FOOD! Cooking your street food, while your buddy drives to the market!

Sheesh, I’ve felt uncharacteristically sad and lonely recently! As an experiment, I found an apartment down a featureless alley on the edge of Chiang Mai for the last couple of weeks. The intention was to have minimal distractions from other people, touristy adventures and to minimize any time spent on creative or professional projects, just to see how I deal with myself. I can say that during this time, I touched the edges of divine bliss and intense despair.

When a Simple Visit to a Temple Gets Deep!

When a simple Sunday adventure to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a beautiful hillside temple just outside of Chiang Mai, gets deep! As I was descending the hundreds of steps a question formed in my mind: How can I best be of service to the world, while still remaining in service to myself? I added the latter part as it was often something I neglected to do in the past. Further consideration (during an amazing Thai massage with soul sibling Roxanne Ruby smile emoticon led me to another, possibly more focused way of asking this question: How might I best use my time, energy and unique skills to most effectively expand consciousness for myself and my species?

Accepting That Sometimes You Just Need An Open Return Ticket Home

Well I just officially slept through my return flight home. No alarm went off. No taxi came. In fact I was 100s of miles away from the Bangkok airport in the mountains of northern Thailand. Just as I planned it! Because that was my *original* flight… and I now have an open return ticket!

I just finished a 20 day meditation course on “Acceptance”. During each session I was prompted to ask myself “Who or what am I resisting in my life, right now?” At first I was quick to think I wasn’t resisting anything. I’m totally peaceful! But then as usual this meditation business got deeeeeep! Ha!

528hz Gelato in Ubud, Bali

Screen Shot 2016-01-16 at [January 16]11.59 AM

Back in Ubud and it’s hard to not feel like I’m in a more tropical, more dense Venice, CA. Take this vegan gelato shop for example which lists both 528hz AND crystal essences as base ingredients for their gelato. New age vegan health nuts rejoice! Personally I’m feeling healthier already and definitely spoilt for any future gelato that isn’t properly tuned. Also have I mentioned how much I love all the pools in Bali? Here’s me straight chilling at a water palace over new years that used to be just for royal guests… Now they’ll let just about anybody in apparently

A Strange Sickness in Amed, Bali

20151229_152429_Richtone(HDR)

Soon after getting my advanced Scuba license in the small fishing town of Amed, Bali I started feeling not so great. 3 Days later I am finally emerging from a really strange post NYE sickness in which my nervous system itself went awry. Each time I moved I felt the fingernails-on-a-chalkboard sensation throughout my body. Eeesh! Nothing makes you appreciate your health, as well as friends and family like being sick and by yourself on the other side of the world! Ha! On the flip side, being bedridden prompted me to immerse myself in CRUX, the second novel in the Nexus trilogy, which is so trippy and engaging that I didn’t put it down until I finished it, which is also conveniently right around the time that I felt much better… If the following summary sounds good to you, check it out! “In a future not so far from ours, the ingestible and illegal drug/technology called Nexus can link human minds electronically, wirelessly, nearly telepathically. There are some who want to improve it, some who want to eradicate it, and others who just want to exploit it. From San Francisco to Bangkok, from Beijing to Delhi, Nexus is a thrill-ride through a world on the brink of explosion.”
